Safety Guidelines for Electrical Installations

Other Installation Guidelines

Electrical installations should have an effective earthing arrangement. If in doubt, consult registered electrical contractors/workers.

Concealed electrical wiring of new installations should have mechanical protection (e.g. installed inside concealed conduit).

Distribution boards should have identification labels to indicate the purpose of individual electrical circuits.

Sufficient socket outlets should be installed for individual heavy-current electrical appliances (e.g. washers/dryers, room coolers, dehumidifiers, electric kettles).

Earth leakage circuit breakers must be installed for socket outlets.

Socket outlets should be installed as far away as practicable from water taps, gas taps and cooking appliances to avoid danger.

No socket outlet should be installed in a bathroom except for electric shavers.

If an electric water heater is installed in a bathroom, the on/off switch should be installed outside the bathroom.

Outdoor socket outlets or electric switches should be of weatherproof types.

Operation Guidelines

Arrange for immediate inspection and repair by registered electrical contractors/workers if the safety of electrical installations is in doubt (e.g. electricity leakage or frequent tripping).

Switch off all electrical appliances if a blackout occurs to prevent them from starting simultaneously when the power supply resumes.

Do not touch any socket outlets or electric switches with wet hands.

Do not use more than one adaptor or extension unit at one socket outlet.
