The E&M Safety Campaign 2009 (the Campaign) is a collaborative effort between the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department and 13 leading organisations in Hong Kong from the utilities, gas, public transport, public housing, recreation, and E&M trade associations to promote E&M and gas safety as well as energy efficiency in the community. Introduced in 2001, the annual Campaign has become one of the largest public education programmes of its kind in the territory.
In order to enhance the community's awareness of safe and good practices in the use of electrical appliances and installations, gas appliances, lifts and escalators, railway transport and amusement rides, as well as increasing the community’s knowledge of energy saving, the Campaign this year will again feature a series of activities including school drama performances, a drawing competition and an on-line quiz. These activities will take place during September to December 2009.
The E&M Safety Carnival, a highlight activity of the Campaign, will be a two-day outdoor carnival to be held on 17 and 18 October 2009 at Victoria Park in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. The carnival will feature educational game booths, pop singers' performance, drama performances and a children's corner with bouncing castles and games. Prizes will also be presented to winners of the on-line quiz and drawing competitions.
