Our People

Staff in a Plant Room at the Hong Kong International Airport Vehicle maintenance training at the Kowloon Workshop Aerobridge maintenance is also our job Fully aware that whatever the focus we place on quality and customer commitment, our services and facilities can only be as good as the people behind the process, we are fully committed to building one of the most professional and capable work teams in the industry. Over the years, we have created a tremendous pool of talent with widespread expertise in such diverse areas as nuclear energy, the prevention of Legionnaires' Disease, the safe use of laser equipment as well as the amazing number of complex and sophisticated equipment systems that keep Hong Kong up and running efficiently and effectively. Today, EMSD not only consists of around 400 engineers and 4,100 skilled technicians, forming a team of professionals that is unique in Hong Kong and one of the finest in Asia; we also serve as a bank of expertise with around 930 specialist staff seconded to other government departments in Hong Kong.

In line with our Corporate Policy to enhance our core competencies and business performance through the continuous development of our human resources, and to cultivate a culture of continuous learning and development, we have both structured training schemes in place to improve professional abilities as well as management development programmes to maximise the potential of our people.

A career with EMSD leads to many opportunities to grow and develop not only with the Department but also with the many new opportunities in the growth and development of Hong Kong. Our Apprentice Training Scheme trains school leavers to become qualified artisans and technicians while our Engineering Graduate Training Scheme is recognised by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers as meeting its requirements for corporate membership.
