1. Introduction

   To arouse the work safety standard of the electrical trade, EMSD cooperates with the trade to jointly organise an "Outstanding Safety Performance Awards for Electrical Worker 2011" (Chinese version only) [PDF format (566KB)]. The selection aims to promote messages of work safety to the electrical trade.

2. Objectives

   1. To promote work safety culture among electrical workers.
   2. To encourage electrical workers to comply with work safety rules.
   3. To award prizes to registered electrical workers who put a high premium on work safety and implement safety measures.

3. Format and Assessment

   The selection will be conducted in two stages.

   In the first stage, a written test will be held. Participants will have to answer 40 multiple choice questions regarding electrical work safety. The 10 participants with the highest scores will enter the second stage subject to the approval of the adjudication panel.

   In the second stage, interviews will be conducted. The adjudication panel, which comprises 5 representatives from EMSD, the trade and the academic sector, will ask the participants questions on the safety aspects of their daily work. Winners will be selected based on the participants' knowledge of the following subjects:

   1. The Code of Practice for the Electricity (Wiring) Regulations
   2. Personal protective equipment and its application
   3. Safe working environment
   4. Power suspension before electrical work
   5. Safety procedures of carrying out electrical work
   6. Emergency response

4. Eligibility and Enrolment

   The selection is open to all registered electrical workers in Hong Kong (regardless of the grades of work for which they are registered). Interested participants should fill in the enrolment form [PDF format (128KB)] and submitted it to the Electricity Legislation Division, EMSD in person or by fax before the deadline.

   The enrollment deadline will be postponed to the next working day if typhoon signal No.8 or above, or BLACK rainstorm warning is issued.

   First Stage Written Test

   Date	:	23 September 2011
   Time	:	7:30 p.m.
   Venue	:	Hall, IVE (Haking Wong) 702 Lai Chi Kok Road, Cheung Sha Wan, Kowloon

   The written test will be postponed to 30 September 2011 if typhoon signal No. 8 or above, or BLACK rainstorm warning is issued.

   Qualified participants will be notified in writing. Participants who receive the written notice are advised to read the Instructions to Participants before they attend the written test.

   Second Stage Interview

   Date	:	Late October 2011 (tentative)
   Venue	:	EMSD Headquarters

   Successful candidates will be notified in writing by early October 2011.

   The prize presentation ceremony has been held during the Annual Technical Seminar on 25 November 2011. Names of the winners and the companies that employ them are published below:

7. General Terms and Conditions

   1. The Organiser reserves the right to change the rules, prizes and other arrangements of the competition without prior notice.
   2. Should any misleading or false information be found in the application form, the participant may be disqualified.
   3. EMSD staff and the family members of adjudication panel members are not allowed to participate in the selection.
   4. The Organizer reserves the right to make final decisions on matters or any disputes related to the competition.
   5. Winners will be interviewed by Electricity News or other mass media.
   6. The Organizer and collaborating organizations may publish the results of the selection including the names of participants and the companies/organisations they work for in the publications or websites without prior notification.
   7. The participants' status as registered electrical workers will not be affected by the results of the selection.
   8. All the information and the answer sheets used and collected in the first stage written test will be destroyed after the selection.
