The year 2008 marks the 60th anniversary of EMSD.
Over the years we have grown with Hong Kong. Our work today is wide-ranging and diverse. We provide multi-faceted E&M engineering services to more than 100 government departments and public bodies; enforce safety legislations with regard to gas, electricity, lifts and escalators, aerial ropeways, amusement rides and railways and provide related regulatory services. We also promote energy efficiency.
Internally, caring for staff has always been a priority. Through staff associations such as the Staff Club, Credit Union and various Departmental Consultative Committees and Unions, we have maintained a close dialogue with staff members and work as a team.
Our Regulatory Services have two key aspects, namely the protection of electrical, mechanical, gas and railway safety, and promotion of energy efficiency. Over the decades we have enforced a wide variety of safety legislations and regulations, published safety guidelines and codes of practice, and implemented many pioneering energy saving schemes. We also reach out to the trades and the community to foster a high level of E&M safety and energy efficiency awareness.
Our Trading Services are delivered via the Electrical and Mechanical Services Trading Fund (EMSTF). Established in 1996, EMSTF operates according to the trading fund accounting system and provides customer-focused, high-quality, multi-faceted E&M engineering services to over 100 government department and public bodies.
A series of 60th anniversary celebration activities will take place over the next few months, including a fun fair for staff and their families and an exhibition at the EMSD Headquarters lobby.
