E&M Safety Campaign 2007
The E&M Safety Campaign 2007 (the Campaign), a joint event co-organised by EMSD and 15 collaboration organisations coming from electricity, gas, public transportation, housing, lift & escalator, amusement rides and merchants associations of the related industries, has launched its major campaign functions. The publicity programme comprises radio commercials, short video shows at the public transportation facilities and newspaper advertisements. Echoing the theme of the Campaign, the publicity programme features messages on electrical safety, gas safety, lift & escalator safety, amusement ride safety, and energy efficiency.
E&M Safety Carnival 2007
Being the highlight of the Campaign, the E&M Safety Carnival 2007 (the Carnival) is scheduled to be held on 6 October 2007 (Saturday) from 11am to 6pm and 7 October 2007 (Sunday) from 10am to 6pm at Soccer Pitch No 6 of the Victoria Park in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. The Permanent Secretary for the Environment / Director of Environmental Protection, Ms Anissa Wong Sean-yee, J. P., is the officiating guest of the Carnivalˇ¦s Opening Ceremony.
The Carnival incorporates game booths and children's corner. The Carnivalˇ¦s programme includes singing performances by young artistes and games on-stage with prizes.
The Carnival is free for admission. The admission tickets are now available from the various District Offices. Those interested may also download the electronic ticket from here, print it out (either in colour or in black-and-white) and show it at the entrance of the Carnival for entry. E&M Safety Campaign 2007 Quiz for Primary School Students
In order to enhance the primary school studentsˇ¦ awareness on the E&M safety issues and energy efficiency, EMSD has invited 23 local primary schools to participate in a quiz. Through their participation in the two-part quiz, the primary school students would be able to enrich their awareness on the E&M Safety and energy efficiency.

Publicity Programme: Web-based Safety Quiz for Primary Students
With an objective to enhance awareness on various E&M safety and energy efficiency, EMSD has launched a 30-day web-based safety quiz for primary school students. Details of the quiz have been posted in a web-page of HK Education City (please click here for details) since 13 December 2004. To participate in the competition, students need to first enroll with their schools and HK Education City in order to obtain an account number and password.

Echoing the theme of the campaign, the media programme comprises television commercials, radio ads and newspaper advertorials, featuring messages on electrical safety, gas safety, lift and escalator safety, and energy efficiency. The programme runs until mid-November.
An E&M Safety Carnival is also scheduled for 2 November 2003 (Sunday) from 10am to 5pm at The Piazza in Kowloon Park, Tsimshatsui. The carnival features game booths and singers performances. Public Consultation on Regulation of Medical Devices
The Department of Health has worked with the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department to review the current situation regarding the use of medical devices and proposed a regulatory system for medical devices in Hong Kong.
The Government now invites views and suggestions from the public, medical device trade and industry, healthcare professionals and interested bodies on the proposed regulatory framework.

The third episode of "E&M Safety Campaign" on gas safety will culminate in a TV variety show to be broadcast on TVB Jade at 9pm on Saturday, 1 December 2001.
The show will feature safety messages for using gas appliances at home. Details on the show can be found in http://tvcity.tvb.com/special/emsd3/index.html. The gas safety episode also featured a gas safety quiz competition for the general public in November.

The second episode of the "E&M Safety Campaign", which is on electrical safety and energy efficiency, will feature a variety show on TVB Jade to be broadcast on Saturday, 22 September at 8:30 p.m. Through a combination of singing, games, safety clips and MTV with a cast of some of the most popular pop singers and TV entertainers, comprehensive useful tips and information on the safe use of household electrical appliances and the safety of electrical installations as well as on energy efficiency are delivered in the one hour variety show. The first episode of the "E&M Safety Campaign", which is on lifts and escalators safety, will feature a variety show on TVB Jade to be broadcast on Saturday, 4 August at 9pm. The variety show is a combination of safety quizzes and games with a cast of some of the most popular TV entertainers and pop singers, filled with useful tips and information on how to use lifts and escalators safety. Safety ambassadors, volunteers recruited earlier for a series of training on lifts and escalators safety, also took part in a series of contests in the show on safety awareness and knowledgefor prizes and championships. EMSD has partnered with 15 leading organisations in Hong Kong to launch, on 10 July 2001, a territory-wide public education campaign in Hong Kong. The Secretary for Economic Services, Ms Sandra Lee, officiated at the launch ceremony. (press release). Collaborating organisations are from diverse sectors including power, gas and oil, public transport, housing, estate management and trade associations. The Campaign aims to enhance the community's awareness of good practices in electrical, gas and mechanical safety as well as energy efficiency. It comprises a line-up of media and community activities spanning six months from July to December. The Campaign consists of three episodes, each lasting for two months and with different focus: The three episodes are Lifts and Escalators Safety, Electrical Safety and Energy Efficiency, and Gas Safety respectively. Activities range from TV variety shows, lifts and escalators safety ambassador programme, free electrical safety advice and energy efficiency surveys as well as free gas safety inspections at selected households. Other activities include school visits, quizzes and seminars.

Committed to achieving and maintaining a high standard of occupational health and safety at all services provided, the Project Division, implemented an Occupational Health and Safety management system [Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 (55KB)] in June 2001. The system complies with OHSAS 18001 accreditation standards and the Division expects to obtain the certification later this year.
