EMSD Awards New Dedicated LPG Filling Stations Contracts

EMSD recently awarded two "design, build and operate" contracts for four more dedicated LPG filling stations in Kowloon and New Territories West in late March.

This is the second batch of dedicated LPG filling station contracts awarded by EMSD. Another five LPG filling stations- at Chai Wan, West Kowloon, Sheung Wan, Kwun Tong and Tai Po - under the first batch of contracts awarded in 2000, are already in operation.

Under the second batch, the contract for two new stations in Mei Foo and Tuen Mun, providing a total of 24 dispensing nozzles, was awarded to ECO Energy Company Limited, a subsidiary of Towngas.

Another contract for two new stations at Kowloon Bay and Kwai Chung, with a total of 24 dispensing nozzles, was awarded to China Resources Petrochems (Group) Co Ltd.

These four new dedicated stations are scheduled to commence operation by the end of 2001. Government's target is to provide adequate capacity to cater for the need of the entire fleet of 18,000 taxis by the end of 2001. We will continue to add more LPG facilities through building more dedicated stations and to encourage operators of existing petrol filling stations to provide LPG facilities.
