Safety & Health at Work
Our Goal
The management and staff of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) are committed to utilising innovation and technology (I&T) to ensure safety and health of our staff and contractors' employees at work, and giving the first priority to safety in the delivery of electrical and mechanical (E&M) services.
Our Policy
- To provide a safe and healthy working environment and a sound system for all our staff, as well as appropriate protection for people who may be affected by our work.
- To monitor the safety and health performance of our contractors on sites by using I&T, and take necessary actions timely in case of sub-standard performance for preventing accidents.
- To strive for continuous improvements in safety and health management and performance, including identifying and developing best practices in terms of safety and health, and requiring or promoting where appropriate the adoption of such practices by our staff and contractors.
- To observe all statutory and contractual requirements for safety and health, relevant standards and codes of practices, and implement relevant recommendations made by authorities responsible for safety and health at work.
- To provide adequate resources, information, staff training and supervision for implementing policies on and plans for safety and health at work.
- To foster a pro-active risk-based culture to prevent accidents, and ensure that our staff and contractors uphold the principle that "safety at work is everyone's responsibility", carrying out all work in a safe manner.
- To keep the policies under constant review, so as to ensure that they are effective and up-to-date.
Our Achievements
Both the management and staff of the EMSD are committed to ensuring the safety and health of our staff and contractors' employees at work, and giving the first priority to safety in the delivery of E&M services. In our pursuit of excellence, we have obtained the corporate certification of ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System. Regarding the provision of engineering services, we have adopted the Smart Site Safety System (4S) in our works contracts where applicable and participated in the 4S Labelling Scheme. In addition, we have developed a safety checklist for working in adverse weather to ensure that our staff work under safe circumstances.
