Introduction

To arouse safety awareness and to enhance professionalism among members of the electrical trade, EMSD continues to cooperate with the HK & Kowloon Electrical Engineering & Appliances Trade Workers Union and the Hong Kong Electrical Contractors Association to jointly organise the "Outstanding Registered Electrical Worker Awards Scheme 2013"[PDF format (1.26MB)].

Objectives

To arouse safety awareness and enhance professionalism continuously among members of the electrical trade and to award registered electrical workers with outstanding performance in these two areas.

Format and Assessment

The selection will be conducted in two stages.

A written test will be held in the first stage. Registered electrical workers demonstrating better safety knowledge will be selected to enter the second stage. Participants will be asked to answer 40 multiple-choice questions regarding safe electrical work. The 6 best performing participants will enter the second stage with the endorsement of the adjudication panel.

There will be two parts in the second stage. The first part is a trade test. Participants will have to carry out inspection and testing to an electrical installation to find out its defects. Members of the adjudication panel will assess the safety awareness and knowledge level of the participants during their inspection and testing work. The second part is an interview. The adjudication panel will ask the participants questions on their daily work. Winners will be selected based on the participants professional knowledge and safety awareness.

Eligibility and Enrolment

The selection is only open to registered electrical workers in Hong Kong (irrespective of the grades of work registered). Interested participants should fill in the enrolment form [PDF format (123KB)] and submit it to the Electricity Legislation Division, EMSD in person or by fax on or before the enrolment deadline (31 July 2013).

The enrollment deadline will be postponed to the next working day if typhoon signal No.8 or above, or BLACK rainstorm warning is issued.

First Stage Written Test

The written test will be postponed to 27 August 2013 if typhoon signal No. 8 or above, or BLACK rainstorm warning is issued.

Eligible participants will be notified in writing. Participants who receive the written notice are advised to read the Instructions to Participants before they attend the written test.

Second Stage Interview

Contestants entering the second stage will be notified in writing by late August 2013

Conditions

1. The Organiser reserves the right to change the rules, prizes and other arrangements of the competition without prior notice.
2. Entry of misleading or false information on the application form may result in disqualification.
3. EMSD staff and family members of the adjudicators are not allowed to participate in the competition.
4. The Organiser reserves the right to make final decisions on matters or any disputes related to the competition.
5. The winners may be interviewed by Electricity News.
6. The Organiser and collaborating organisations may announce the results of the competition with the names of participants and the companies they work for in their publications or websites without prior notification.
7. The participants´ status as registered electrical workers will not be affected by the results of the competition.
8. All the information and the answer sheets used and collected in the first stage written test will be destroyed after the selection.
