Project Details
The estimated total cooling capacity of the proposed District Cooling System (DCS) is about 123 megawatt of refrigeration (MWr) and the estimated total air-conditioned floor area about 0.7 million square meters (m2). The maximum annual saving in electricity consumption upon full utilization is estimated to be 31 million kWh, with a corresponding reduction of about 21,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission per annum.
Current Status
The project is being implemented in different phases to suit the development schedule of Tung Chung East. Pipe laying works under Phase 1 was commenced in June 2021 for target completion in 2026. The remaining pipe laying works will be implemented to suit the development schedule.
The construction of district cooling plant commenced in September 2023 and is anticipated to be put into operation in 2027. After completion, district cooling system will provide chilled water to schools, clinic, Tung Chung East MTR Station, hotels, police station and fire station in Tung Chung East.
