Safe Use of Stairlift

Stairlift is a type of “lift” regulated by the Lifts and Escalators Ordinance (the Ordinance) (Cap. 618). In general, owners of the stairlift are the responsible persons under the Ordinance if the owners have not conferred the management or control of the stairlift on other persons. The responsible persons have the following responsibilities:

The Ordinance applies to stairlifts installed within a private premises. Failure to comply with the relevant requirements of the Ordinance may result in the responsible person contravening the Ordinance and the responsible person may face prosecution.
