Room Air Conditioners
Explanation of Terms

Information Provider • The company/individual (specified person) who has submitted the specified information in respect of a product model under section 6 of Energy Efficiency (Labelling of Products) Ordinance, Cap 598.
Reference Number • The number assigned to a product model by the Director of Electrical & Mechanical Services under section 8 of the Energy Efficiency (Labelling of Products) Ordinance, Cap 598.
Year • The "Year" means the year in which the reference number is assigned or, where the energy efficiency grading is calculated in accordance with the new calculation method under section 12 of the Energy Efficiency (Labelling of Products) Ordinance, the year in which the new calculation method takes effect.
Brand • The particular name used by a manufacturer or importer to identify a product range.
Model • The particular name and/or number used by a manufacturer or importer to identify an individual product within a brand.
Energy Efficiency Grade Cooling (1 to 5) • The energy energy grade (cooling) calculated in accordance with the Code of Practice on Energy Labelling of Products 2010 edition. Grade 1 being the most efficient and Grade 5 being the least efficient.
Annual Energy Consumption Cooling (kWh) • The annual energy consumption (cooling) calculated in accordance with Code of Practice on Energy Labelling of Products 2010 edition.
Category •
Category 1
A single package type room air conditioner with cooling function only
Category 2
A single package type room air conditioner with both cooling and heating functions.
Category 3
A split type room air conditioner with cooling function only.
Category 4
A split type room air conditioner with both cooling and heating functions.
Cooling Capacity (kW) • Means the measured amount of sensible and latent heat that a room air conditioner can remove from the conditioned space in a defined interval of time as presented in the test report submitted to the Electrical & Mechanical Services Department for assignment of reference number.
Rated Cooling Capacity (kW) • Means the cooling capacity of a room air conditioner as determined and declared by the manufacturer or importer of the room air conditioner in accordance with the standard and requirements specified in the Code of Practice on Energy Labelling of Products 2010 edition.
Refrigerant • Medium of heat transfer, which passes through the closed refrigeration circuit.
Place of Manufacture • The place/country in which the room air conditioner is manufactured.
Energy Consumption Index Iε (Cooling) (%) • The ratio of the actual effective power input of the room air conditioner to the Average Appliance Energy Consumption (as found from the associated average energy consumption line in clause 7.5.5 of the Code of Practice on Energy Labelling of Products 2010 edition) The lower the energy consumption index (Iε), the better the energy efficiency.
Inverter • Means the capacity output of the room air conditioner can be changed.
