The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) issued a press release on 15 October 2026 regarding lifts completed by Taizoom Elevator (HK) Limited (Taizoom) that were found to be missing door frame components, with inspections being immediately initiated thereafter. The EMSD completed inspections of lifts installed by Taizoom across Hong Kong on 19 October. In addition, other registered lift contractors have been required to carry out the same checks on the lifts they have installed and to submit inspection reports to the EMSD, which will then conduct sample checks. The relevant work is expected to be completed by mid-November 2026. The EMSD’s sample check results are as follows :
| As at 2:00 p.m. each day | Number of buildings with lifts installed by Taizoom | Number of buildings with lifts installed by other registered lift contractors |
| Number of estates inspected | Number of buildings within estates inspected | Number of single-block buildings inspected | Number of buildings with door frame components installed | Number of buildings without door frame components installed | Number of estates inspected | Number of buildings within estates inspected | Number of single-block buildings inspected | Number of buildings with door frame components installed | Number of buildings without door frame components installed |

- Apart from the two cases in estates under the Tenants Purchase Scheme (TPS) announced on 15 October 2026, all of the above mentioned 338 buildings found to be missing lift door frame components are private buildings, and all were installed by Taizoom. The EMSD has completed its inspection of buildings under Taizoom's responsibility and will continue to inspect works under the responsibility of other registered lift contractors.
- As inspections to date show that all cases of missing lift door frame components are related to Taizoom, the EMSD will at this stage focus its resources on installing lift door frames for these buildings as soon as possible.
- The property management companies / owners’ corporations of all inspected buildings have been notified of the inspection results, regardless of whether the lift door frame components have been installed as required. Meanwhile, they have also been requested to put up notices in conspicuous places within the buildings to inform residents.
- The lift door frame component installation works will be carried out under the supervision of the EMSD, with the costs borne by the contractors. Upon completion of the installation works, the EMSD will conduct sample checks.
- Survey and installation works for the lift door frame component have commenced at all buildings under Taizoom’s responsibility (including the two TPS estates and 338 private buildings).
- As for works under the responsibility of other registered lift contractors, the EMSD will scrutinise the declarations submitted by the contractors progressively and conduct sample checks.
- Regarding Taizoom’s non-compliance, the EMSD will carry out regulatory work in accordance with the Lifts and Escalators Ordinance, while the Police are conducting criminal investigation.
