Staff Win Awards

We are delighted to report that EMSD staff have again won a number of prestigious awards for their professional expertise and outstanding service to the engineering profession and the community.

Mr. Chu Yim-kwong, a senior building services engineer seconded to the Architectural Services Department, was awarded The President’s Award 2012 of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) in recognition of his professional accomplishments and his more than 25 years of valuable service to The HKIE. As to the younger generation, Mr. Chan Hei-yim, Leo, one of the engineers in the Business Development Division, was awarded Young Engineer of the Year Award 2012 of The HKIE for his professional expertise and outstanding service to The HKIE and the community. These two awards are recognised as one of the highest honours in the engineering industry. The HKIE President presented both awards at the HKIE Annual Dinner on 13 March, 2012.

EMSD has always encouraged its staff, especially younger ones, to grasp every opportunity available to broaden their horizons. Mr. Ng Ka-wing, Barry, an assistant engineer seconded to Drainage Services Department and Mr. Siu Hiu-fai, Stanley, a biomedical engineering graduate, were chosen by The HKIE President to join The HKIE President’s Protégé Scheme 2011/2012. Under the Scheme, they shadowed the President in attending and organising major functions for the engineering profession, thus gaining first-hand insights into the work of the industry. The exposure has given them a valuable head start for their careers in EMSD.

Three members of the EMSD Apprentice Training Scheme received awards in the Vocational Training Council Outstanding Apprentice/Trainee Award 2011. Mr. Yung Ka-hin, an air-conditioning technician apprentice, was awarded Outstanding Apprentice, while electronic technician apprentice Mr. Law Ho-lun and electrical technician apprentice Mr. Wan Wing-sum both received a merit award.
