Emergency Response – Content
In the face of unexpected social circumstances and natural disasters, the EMSTF team always remains steadfast in its duties. By promptly mobilising officers to provide professional support, the team serves as the most reliable backstop for client departments during critical moments.
Anti-epidemic Support: Conversion of Facilities for Immediate Use within the Shortest Timeframe
Spanning over three years, the COVID-19 epidemic presented unprecedented challenges to our community. We threw our full weight behind the anti-epidemic efforts, which included converting general wards in public hospitals into second-tier isolation wards within a short timeframe, assisting in establishing community isolation facilities, and transforming multiple venues into community vaccination centres (CVCs), with a view to providing frontline healthcare personnel and the general public with the support needed.
Extreme Weather: Safeguarding Public Facilities and Minimising Public Impact
In view of the increasingly frequent occurrence of super typhoons and torrential rain in recent years, we have strengthened co-operation with our clients to safeguard public E&M assets. When Super Typhoon Saola and the exceptionally severe rainstorm hit Hong Kong successively in 2023, we activated the Emergency Control Centre to carry out swift repairs on public E&M facilities, keeping service downtime to a minimum. At the same time, we utilised technology to monitor facilities, for instance, introducing the Smart Flooding Monitoring System to track water levels for early warning and prompt response, thereby strengthening overall emergency response efficiency.
