The EMSD works together with our clients to promote the popularisation of electric vehicles. Recently, we have designed the first electric specialised vehicle for the Department of Health to replace the conventional mobile education promotion vehicle for advocating oral health. Different from the diesel-engine vehicle in the past, the brand-new promotion vehicle was retrofitted from an electric bus, which is more environmentally friendly. The new vehicle was officially delivered in the fourth quarter of 2023.

The new promotion vehicle is about 12 metres in length, 2.5 metres in width, and 3.37 metres in height, with a battery range of more than 300 kilometres. In comparison to traditional diesel-engine vehicles, the electric promotion vehicle makes less noise and has no tailpipe emissions. Not only is it more environmentally friendly, but it also minimises the impact on students within school premises. In addition, the new promotion vehicle is equipped with projectors and seats for students to watch educational videos and three-dimensional animations. It also features interactive tablet games to arouse students’ learning interest.

Due to the limited supply of similar electric specialised vehicles on the market, we needed to identify suitable vehicle models for design and retrofitting in response to clients’ needs, in the process of which we had to overcome various challenges. Looking forward, the EMSD will continue to collaborate closely with our clients in alignment with the Hong Kong Roadmap on Popularisation of Electric Vehicles, and together assist Hong Kong in achieving the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
