General Engineering Services Division had a record year registering significant
business growth in 1999/2000, as a result of marked productivity gains,
various business process improvements and further headcount reductions.
New business, such as air duct cleaning services welcomed by many clients,
also contributed to revenue growth.
During the year, the Cheung Sha Wan Government Office Building was taken
over for E&M and building services maintenance. The division has also
begun to take over the maintenance of portable fire fighting equipment,
to the satisfaction of many user departments.
Another
new business activity is one-stop facilities management. The division
launched two pilot schemes at the San Po Kong Government Office Building
and Canton Road Government Office Building. Facilities management, whereby
clients obtain all E&M, building services, security and related services
via one point of contact, has become the trend in the market. The division
regards the new service as a further step in helping clients to enhance
efficiency.
After the decommissioning of the old Kai Tak Airport Passenger Terminal
Building in 1998, it has been transformed into a multi-purpose complex
comprising government offices, bowling alleys and vehicle showrooms, among
others. The division has been providing customers with various forms of
support, ranging from technical advice and renovation works, to reorganising
the routine of maintenance and operation services to facilitate smooth
operations and transformation.
The division has also undertaken and completed fire services upgrading
works at various child care centres and a number of government offices
to enhance the safety of occupants in these venues.
The
division plans to continue to grow its business, riding on its proven
track record and strong customer base. IT development, indoor air quality
measurement and improvement are key areas of expansion. As in the past,
the division will continue to support customers through the provision
of value-added services in their bid for energy conservation, such as
conducting energy audits and pursuing energy management opportunities
at client venues.
