E&M Carnival 2020 Poster Design Competition


Winners will receive notification individually.

Objective

The themes of E&M Carnival 2020 are electrical and mechanical (E&M) safety, energy efficiency and the application of innovative technology, which are closely related to our daily lives. Participants are required to design a poster using their creativity to show that Hong Kong gives high priority to E&M safety while pursuing energy efficiency and the application of innovative technology.

  • Junior Primary (Primary One to Primary Three students)
  • Senior Primary (Primary Four to Primary Six students)
  • Junior Secondary (Form One to Form Three students)
  • Senior Secondary (Form Four to Form Six students)

Submission of Entries

Participants may download the entry form here. Completed forms and entries can be collected by and submitted via schools, or e-mailed to carnival2020@emsd.gov.hk by the participants; please specify E&M Carnival 2020 Poster Design Competition in the subject of the e-mail.


Specifications of Entries

  1. All entries submitted must be original, have never been published, and not be copied from or designed by another person. Entries must not be folded, mounted, framed or treated with a film.
  2. Participants are required to submit an original manuscript, colour printout or digital file in A4 size (297 x 210 mm).
  3. Entries may be designed with the aid of computer programmes or mobile applications. The file format must be JPG/PNG/PDF, with a resolution of 600 dpi or above.
  4. The use of graphics from computer software is not allowed for computer-aided designs.
  5. Each entry shall be submitted with a complete title as well as a brief description of the idea of the entry and the message to get across in no more than 100 words in Chinese or English.

Assessment and Judging Criteria

The judging panel comprises representatives from the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department and the co-organisers. Assessment will be made according to the following five major criteria:

  • Visual effects (30%)
  • Idea (20%)
  • Creativity (20%)
  • Relevance to the themes (20%)
  • Impact (10%)

Prizes for each category include:
Champion (One):
Gift vouchers worth HK$1,000 and a certificate
1st Runner-up (One):
Gift vouchers worth HK$500 and a certificate
2nd Runner-up (One):
Gift vouchers worth HK$300 and a certificate

Points to Note:

  1. Each participant may only submit one entry. Participants who submit multiple or incomplete entries will be disqualified.
  2. Participants will not be notified individually upon receipt of entries. Submitted entries will not be returned.
  3. The Organiser has the right to request the winners to provide identification proof for verification. Prizes will only be awarded upon verification of identity.
  4. Submitted entries shall not involve contents that are illegal, obscene, indecent, defamatory, threatening, pornographic, harassing, inducing a person to hatred or anxiety, offensive to a certain race or ethnic group, discriminatory, advocating acts deemed as criminal behaviours, leading to civil or criminal liability, violating any laws or rules, or improper information.
  5. Participants shall agree to indemnify the Organiser against any claims, losses, additional costs incurred, damages, liabilities and/or expenses in respect of their entries arising out of their breach of any of the terms.
  6. When making the entries public, the Organiser has the right to publish the name, respective category, name of school and class of a participant.
  7. Participants shall ensure that their entries do not infringe the intellectual property rights of any person.
  8. The Organiser reserves the right to change and interpret the rules of this competition without prior notice. The Organiser’s decisions on the competition results are final and binding on the participants.
  9. For the avoidance of doubt, participants agree that the Organiser may edit, exhibit, copy or duplicate any or all of the entries (regardless of whether they are winning entries) for whatsoever purpose and upload them on its website for the public to download or use at any time, without the need to obtain prior consent from the participants.
  10. All winning and shortlisted entries will be uploaded to the E&M Carnival 2020 website for viewing by members of the public. Public exhibition of the original entries will also be staged in the special zone at E&M Carnival 2020.

The personal data provided will be kept confidential and only be used for the purposes related to this competition.

The personal data collected by the Organiser will only be used for the purposes related to the E&M Carnival 2020 Poster Design Competition. Participants have the right to request access to and the correction of their personal data. Such requests should be made in writing and mailed to the following address:
