In Brief

The Olympic Equestrian sports comprises three disciplines: Dressage, Jumping and Eventing.*

Hong Kong is the co-host of the Equestrian Events of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In October 2006, EMSD was appointed provider of technical support services for the venues assigned to this international event. The equestrian competitions will be held in Sha Tin and Fan Ling. EMSD staff are required to fully collaborate with the Equestrian Company, the Hong Kong Jockey Club, various sponsors and systems suppliers, in providing support to the installation of various on-site instruments and equipment, including scoring systems, score panels, audio systems etc. Among the mission-critical facilities is the IT system, which allows venues in Hong Kong and Beijing to be linked seamlessly for instantaneous transmission of results and related information.

Through participation in several prominent projects, such as ˇ§A Symphony of Lightsˇ¨ and the WTO Hong Kong Ministerial Conference, EMSD has accumulated abundant experience in managing large scale events. Armed with technically competent staff, who are always committed to deliver the best service, the department is confident that it would not fail the public's expectation and can support Hong Kong in accomplishing this arduous task, leaving a fine page in the records of the first ever Olympic Games hosted by China.
