Suitable Persons for Maintenance and Repair of LPG Vehicles
- General maintenance and repair of LPG vehicles, such as replacement of tyre, indicator light, lubricant and repair of vehicle body or vehicle engine, etc., may be undertaken by general vehicle mechanics.
- For maintenance and repair of LPG vehicles involving the LPG fuel system (including the LPG fuel tank, vaporiser, fuel pipe, pressure regulator, mixer and any parts of the associated components), the work must be carried out by the following Competent Persons:-
- For replacement of LPG fuel tank, or maintenance, repair or replacement of vaporiser, fuel pipe, pressure regulator, mixer and associated components, the work must be carried out by a Competent Person (Class 6) or under his supervision.
- Work involving the structure or internal components of an LPG fuel tank (including replacement of fuel pump inside the tank and 5-yearly revalidation of fuel tank) must be carried out by a Competent Person (Class 1) [PDF format] or under his supervision.
Suitable Venues for Maintenance and Repair of LPG Vehicles
- General maintenance and repair of LPG vehicles, such as replacement of tyre, indicator light, lubricant and repair of vehicle body or vehicle engine, etc., may be carried out at a general vehicle workshop. Only a LPG Vehicle Fuel System Maintenance Workshop, with issued identification signage, and hiring a Competent Person (Class 6), could perform repair work on the fuel system of LPG vehicles (including item (i) but excluding item (ii) in abovementioned).
- Vehicle Maintenance Workshop with approved Notifiable Gas Installation (i.e., when the storage capacity of LPG is in excess of 130 litres) must seek the approval of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD).
- EMSD have issued identification signage to LPG Vehicle Fuel System Maintenance Workshop. Issuance of identification signage is an administrative measures so that LPG vehicle owners, LPG vehicle drivers, public and relevant persons can be easily to identify the vehicle maintenance workshops providing services to fuel system of LPG vehicles.
- Work involving the structure or internal components of an LPG fuel tank (including replacement of fuel pump inside the tank and 5-yearly revalidation of fuel tank) must be carried out at an EMSD approved LPG Fuel Tank Workshop.
