In recognition of the achievements and contributions of engineering professionals, the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) presents awards annually to distinguished professionals and outstanding innovative projects. Mr Yuen Piu-hung, Francis, an engineer of the EMSD, was awarded the Young Engineer of the Year Award 2024 – Certificate of Merit by the HKIE. Mr Yuen is currently responsible for the maintenance of electronic systems and medical devices of the Hospital Authority and Department of Health. On receiving the award, he expressed deep gratitude for the training and support provided by the EMSD over the years. In addition, the EMSD was awarded the HKIE Grand Award 2024 – Certificates of Merit in the Innovation Category (Sub-category I) for the Smart Antifouling Seawater Screen for Cooling System in Hong Kong, and the Innovation Category (Sub-category II) (Young Member Group) for the Mass Deployment of AI-based Chiller Energy Optimisation using Semantic AI Approach and Large Language Model. We are grateful for the recognition of the industry and will continue to strive for promoting I&T applications and development in the future.
