Removal of Reference Numbers under Energy Efficiency (Labelling of Products) Ordinance, Cap. 598
With effect from 27 August 2010, the reference numbers of three “SUNSHINE” compact fluorescent lamp models (S20 20W E14 2900K, S20 20W B22 2900K and S20 20W E27 2900K) have been removed as these models do not conform with their rated average lives. As a result, these models are not allowed to be supplied in Hong Kong. According to the importer’s confirmation, these models have not been supplied in Hong Kong. Please click here for details.

Voluntary recall of “Bonaqua 900” hot & cold mini water dispenser
Echo Rich Industries Ltd announced a voluntary recall of “Bonaqua 900” hot & cold mini water dispensers. The concerned hot & cold mini water dispensers were supplied by SWIRE COCA COLA HK to the local market between October 2006 and December 2007. The thermostat connector of the concerned hot & cold mini water dispenser might overheat if exposed to sources of heat over a prolonged period of time.

Voluntary recall of "Aqua Cooler YLR0.7-5-X(HC36TD/B)" bottled water dispenser
Hong Kong Tak Wai Company Ltd. has recently announced voluntary recall on a bottled water dispenser with Brand and Model as Aqua Cooler YLR0.7-5-X(HC36TD/B). The water dispenser was supplied in the period between June 2008 and March 2010. According to information collected, the distance between the high and low voltage outputs of the cooling transformer failed the creepage distance requirement, posing a potential risk of electric short circuit. Consumers in possession of the water dispenser are advised to approach the concerned supplier to arrange for the refund and or a new model replacement. SANYO Electric (Hong Kong) Ltd. announced a voluntary free preventive maintenance services on one model of "SANYO" washing machine (Model Nos. ASW-U951T) supplied between September 2007 and July 2008. According to information collected, the internal motor power cables of these washing machines may be damaged after prolonged usage, posing a potential risk of electric short circuit.
Consumers, who are in possession of the washing machines, are advised to stop using them immediately and contact SANYO to arrange for the free preventive maintenance services. Free replacement schemes for eighteen models of compact fluorescent lamps
With effect from 30 June 2010, the reference numbers of eighteen compact fluorescent lamp models (brands PALLAS, Silon, MASTAR and LIGHTPRO) have been removed from the record of listed models. As a result, these models are not allowed to be supplied in Hong Kong. Please click here to see the press release. Removal of Reference Number under Energy Efficiency (Labelling of Products) Ordinance, Cap. 598
With effect from 28 May 2010, the reference numbers (L090998 and L091004) of two“U Land”compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) models (SRE-13 8W E27 2700K and EUG-24 18W E27 2700K) have been removed as these models failed in the compliance monitoring testing under the Mandatory Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme. Free replacement scheme for twelve models of “STARWISE” compact fluorescent lamps
EMSD has served notices under the Energy Efficiency (Labelling of Products) Ordinance to Starwise Industrial (Hong Kong) Ltd. and Starwise Enterprise (Asia) Ltd. to remove the reference numbers of twelve “STARWISE” compact fluorescent lamp models with effect from 29 April 2010. As a result, these models are not allowed to be supplied in Hong Kong. Please click here to see the press release and details of the models. The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department has recently published 2 booklets titled "Variable Flow Control for Condensing Water Pumps" [PDF format (3.81MB)] and "Heat Pump Water Heaters" [PDF format (3.21MB)].
The condensing water pump control booklet provides information on variable flow control for condensing water pumps and its potential in energy saving.

Second phase of Mandatory Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme comes into operation on 19 March 2010
The 2nd phase of the Mandatory Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme (MEELS) comes into operation today (March 19) with a grace period of 18 months. Please click here for the press release.
For implementation of the 2nd phase of the MEELS, the Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services has revised an approved Code of Practice on Energy Labelling of Products under the Energy Efficiency (Labelling of Products) Ordinance. OSRAM offers free replacement for five models of compact fluorescent lamps
EMSD has served a notice under the Energy Efficiency (Labelling of Products) Ordinance to Osram Prosperity Company Limited (OSRAM) to remove the reference numbers (L090609, L090610, L090611, L091205 and L091206) of the five “OSRAM” compact fluorescent lamp models (DULUXSTAR 20W/827 E27, DULUXSTAR 20W/840 E27, DULUXSTAR 20W/865 E27, DULUXSTAR 20W/827 B22d and DULUXSTAR 20W/865 B22d) with effect from 5 March 2010. Recall of 3 Models of "British Design" Extension Units
EMSD announced a mandatory recall of 3 models “British Design” extension units supplied by Phos Trading Company Ltd. The models of these “British Design” extension units are UK104S, UK03 and UK06 which were supplied through DSC shops between October 2009 and January 2010. The extension units might have overheating problem during use, posing a risk of fire hazard to users. Consumers are advised to stop using the extension units immediately and return them to the supplier for refund.
